It's been this way since I woke up this morning- no hustle and bustle of a regular school morning, Mom scrambling this way and that, packing lunches, hurrying out the door to drive Nora and Jane to school. Jerry's heavy footsteps on the kitchen floor above me. Maybe they've left. Abandoned me here, left me to rot. My mind wants to wander to other, darker places. But those thoughts terrify me, and I can't afford to panic. Not yet. So I force myself to stop. I just need a way out.Untitled2

Untitled...for now.I've been down here for eight days. I think. I get three meals a day, handed to me through a slat in the door, and I've gotten twenty-four so far. That means eight days. Right? I can hear people walking upstairs. Mom. My little sisters Nora and Jane. My older brother Jerry. I wonder if they talk about me at all.
